Role Summary
The Associate Director, International Strategic Pricing, will lead pricing governance for on-market assets and translate the value of pipeline assets into pricing and contracting guidance. They will work within the Value & Access Team to shape price potential using the Strategic Pricing Framework and advanced modelling tools, and conduct key scenario analyses such as price-volume-time tradeoffs and indication sequencing. The role supports integrated access strategies across on-market and pipeline AbbVie assets, researches and identifies appropriate access models including contracting guidance, and engages with iMAP leadership and cross-functional teams to inform pricing strategy and ensure timely price reimbursement and access performance.
Responsibilities
- Anticipate and Shape External Environment: Evaluate and integrate new pricing approaches and access models to optimize value and drive patient access; support affiliates with advocacy and policy objectives to implement these models.
- Ensure IAS includes disease-level advocacy and policy objectives that if implemented may positively impact the price potential of EVEMA brands.
- Drive and influence strategies internally to achieve Business Goals through collaboration with iMAP leadership and cross-functional teams across the organization.
- Strategic Pricing: Utilize the Strategic Pricing Framework to establish price potential of key brands and assets; advise value and access teams on opportunities to improve and accelerate patient access across international markets.
- Define pricing hypotheses and conduct scenario analyses, identifying risk-mitigation strategies for the integrated access strategy and pricing guidance in collaboration with key stakeholders.
- Inform and shape the integrated access strategy to reflect asset price potential, engaging in governance processes for on-market and pipeline assets.
- Develop short- and long-term International pricing guidance over the asset lifecycle; collaborate with iMAP VAT access lead, HTA lead and broader VAT.
- Create contracting guidance to mitigate access risks and payer objections; assess new access models in the context of macroeconomic policy dynamics and healthcare trends.
- Identify asset access value drivers and incorporate healthcare system dynamics; evaluate traditional and innovative pricing and access models to enable favorable reimbursement and affordability.
- Develop asset indication sequence and country launch optimization and Geo Strategy recommendations with key partners.
- Collaborate with MABI to conduct pricing market research and inform international pricing strategy; provide subject matter expertise on pricing analyses.
- Support key markets/LBUs in translating International Pricing Strategy to local launch success, including localization of the Integrated Access Strategy and negotiation strategies.
- Maintain knowledge of the international pricing and access landscape and identify opportunities from competitive and pricing perspectives.
- Operational Pricing: Ensure compliance and monitoring of international pricing governance for on-market brands; ensure compliant data handling and reporting.
- Coordinate and obtain review and approval of pricing business cases; prepare business cases for pricing councils in line with governance.
- Provide accurate pricing information across pricing and financial processes; collate pricing assumptions and causal analyses.
- Create and implement communication and training plans for pricing guidance as part of the Integrated Access Strategy and financial processes.
- Serve as internal SME on strategic and operational pricing and analytics; provide training as needed.
- Collaborate with international pricing analysts on reference price and cross-country impact analyses; work on country launch sequence optimization analyses.
- Cultivate and Accelerate Our Culture: provide regular performance and leadership feedback; set development objectives; manage project progress and deadlines; build relationships with internal stakeholders across iMAP, Asset Leadership, GMCO, GCD, affiliates, Finance, and DSG.
Qualifications
- Essential: Proven track record and experience in healthcare or pharmaceutical industry including understanding of finance, pricing, health economics or market access, with at least 3 years of relevant experience.
- Proven AbbVie leadership attributes and behaviors; requires high levels of competence, confidence, and credibility.
- Ability to synthesize and critically analyze large volumes of information, identify risks, make recommendations, and implement solutions.
- Excellent English communication skills (oral and written) with clear, concise written and verbal communication and strong presentation skills.
- Ability to manage workload to meet critical deadlines under challenging time constraints.
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills; ability to make decisions with incomplete data and navigate ambiguity.
- Preferred: Knowledge and hands-on experience designing or implementing international pricing strategies and scenario assessments; designing integrated market access strategies and payer value propositions.
- Experience interacting with pricing and reimbursement agencies and knowledge of top marketsβ health care systems and pricing regulations, especially in Germany, Canada, China, Japan, and major affiliates.
- Understanding of health technology appraisal and the fundamentals of health economics used to value medicines from a payer perspective.
- Ability to communicate value drivers and the financial impact of pricing initiatives on business objectives.
- Understanding of data management and reporting with awareness of relevant technology platforms and solutions.
- Degree: BA/BS in Finance, Actuarial Sciences, Statistics, Health Economics, Econometrics, Mathematics, Pharmacy, or related field.

- BA or BSc in Finance, Actuarial Sciences, Statistics, Health Economics, Econometrics, Mathematics, Pharmacy, or a related scientific field.
