Role Summary

The Associate Director is responsible for developing publication strategies and plans. The role leads the asset team in creating strategic and tactical plans to ensure effective dissemination of scientific information, collaborating across Global Medical Affairs, Value Evidence & Outcomes, Global Clinical Development, Preclinical Development, and commercial colleagues as appropriate. The position participates in the Launch Excellence Network and serves as the GSC lead in coordinated planning approaches, aligning publication plans with company-wide strategies for an asset or therapeutic area.

Responsibilities

  • Leads the development of the publication strategy for an asset or portfolio, delivering effective and novel publication strategies.
  • Represents publication strategy/plans to leadership and other stakeholders.
  • Develops and maintains expertise on the publication environment, including supervision of congresses/journals and competitor publication activities within the designated disease state/area.
  • Identifies gaps and opportunities for publications and provides recommendations to the team.
  • Engages with customers, opinion leaders, patient advocacy groups, professional societies/medical associations, and publishers.
  • Builds cross-functional relationships with development/medical affairs and other communications experts; advises asset teams on publication strategy, planning, execution, and standard methodologies for launches.
  • Uses insights to identify trends and advise/refine GSC and Lilly launch/publication strategies.
  • Applies strategic and analytical thinking to develop, defend, and implement publication plans; ensures regional/affiliate strategy consistency.
  • Aligns portfolio strategies when indications overlap and integrates input from senior management into publication plans aligned with industry guidelines.
  • Manages the overall book of work for the assigned area; develops sourcing plans and coordinates across geographies and therapeutic areas.
  • Leads and mentors internal and external team members to achieve goals; identifies and resolves delivery issues.
  • Leads development of new capabilities to support GSC transformation; serves as subject matter expert on publication strategy, planning, and industry guidelines (e.g., Good Publication Practices, ICMJE, PhRMA).

Qualifications

  • Required: Bachelor’s degree in a scientific, health, communications, or technology-related field.
  • Required: 1 year experience in pharmaceutical medical writing or publication planning.
  • Required: 1 year experience leading launch activities.
  • Required: 1 year experience leading/mentoring others.
  • Required: 1 year experience in leading/handling a key part of a portfolio or business process.
  • Required: Successful completion of writing exercise.
  • Preferred: Advanced degree (MA/MS, PharmD, PhD).
  • Preferred: Expertise in publication guidelines and industry standards (Good Publication Practices, ICMJE, PhRMA).
  • Preferred: Strong communication skills with extensive experience in writing, reviewing, and publishing scientific materials; ability to critically appraise literature and data for publications.
  • Preferred: Strategic and analytical thinking to develop and implement publication plans.
  • Preferred: Experience partnering in developing SD plans; knowledge of scientific, statistical, and research principles; familiarity with publication management software/tools.
