About the Role
Formulation Scientist (CMC Development) to lead biologics drug product formulation development, including high-concentration formulations for mammalian- and bacterial-derived molecules. Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior scientists.
What You’ll Do
- Design, develop, and optimize biologics drug product formulations (aqueous and non-aqueous)
- Develop high-concentration formulations for subcutaneous delivery
- Characterize/excipient-buffer-stabilization strategies; evaluate stability, aggregation, viscosity, and degradation
- Conduct forced degradation and stress studies to define formulation design space
- Perform analytical characterization of biologics and formulations (higher-order structure, aggregation, particle formation, colloidal behavior)
- Investigate degradation pathways; develop/qualify/implement analytical methods for screening and optimization
- Lead formulation strategy, candidate selection, and developability assessments
- Support late-stage activities (comparability, stability strategy, lifecycle management)
- Author/review/approve technical reports, protocols, and IND/IMPD/BLA documentation
- Lead/support technology transfer to internal manufacturing sites and CDMOs
Who You Are (Requirements)
- PhD with 2 years’ experience or MS with 6 years’ experience in formulation development
You Are Also/You Have
- Biologics drug product formulation experience (aqueous and/or non-aqueous)
- Advanced analytical techniques (chromatography, spectroscopy, light scattering, calorimetry)
- Strong biologics analytical characterization (e.g., SEC, DLS, DSC, spectroscopy)
- Protein stability/degradation mechanism and structure–property knowledge
- Experience across early- and late-stage development
Nice to Have
- Pharmaceutics/chemistry-related degree; mentoring/leadership; fast-paced/matrix experience; CDMO/external partner experience; IND/IMPD/BLA familiarity.
Work/Travel/Pay
Hybrid role (Bridgewater, NJ), remote most of the time; occasional travel ~5%–15%. Pay range: $155,000–$201,500 annual.
