About the Role
Formulation Scientist (CMC Development) on the drug product formulation development team for biologics.
Responsibilities
- Lead drug product formulation development for biologics programs, including high-concentration formulations for mammalian- and bacterial-derived molecules.
- Design, develop, and optimize aqueous and non-aqueous drug product formulations.
- Develop high-concentration formulations enabling subcutaneous delivery.
- Characterize and optimize excipient systems, buffer conditions, stabilization strategies; evaluate physicochemical stability, aggregation, viscosity, and degradation pathways.
- Conduct forced degradation/stress studies to define formulation design space.
- Perform analytical characterization (higher-order structure, aggregation, particle formation, colloidal behavior).
- Investigate degradation pathways, structure–function relationships, and critical quality attributes; develop/qualify/implement analytical methods for screening and optimization.
- Provide technical leadership for formulation strategy, candidate selection, and developability assessments.
- Support late-stage activities (comparability, stability strategy, lifecycle management).
- Author/review/approve technical reports, protocols, and regulatory documentation (IND/IMPD/BLA).
- Lead/support technology transfer to internal manufacturing sites and CDMOs.
Qualifications
- PhD with 2 years formulation development experience, or MS with 6 years.
- Experience in biologics drug product formulation (aqueous and/or non-aqueous).
- Advanced analytical techniques (chromatography, spectroscopy, light scattering, calorimetry) and strong biologics methods (SEC, DLS, DSC).
- Knowledge of protein stability, degradation mechanisms, and structure–property relationships.
- Experience across early- and late-stage programs.
Nice to Have
- Degree in related discipline; mentoring/leadership; CDMO/external partner experience; regulatory familiarity (IND/IMPD/BLA); fast-paced matrix capability.
Work/Travel
- Hybrid, Bridgewater, NJ; occasional travel ~5%–15%.
Pay Range
- $155,000.00–$201,500.00 annually.
U.S. Offerings (highlights)
- Medical/dental/vision, mental health support, EAP; paid time off and flexible schedules; 401(k) match, equity/ESPP; company-paid life/disability; learning and mentorship programs.
Application Instructions
- Current Insmed employees: apply via Jobs Hub in Workday.
- Applications accepted for 5 calendar days from posting date or until filled.
