Associate Director, Environmental Health and Safety

Role: Associate Director, EH&S responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining comprehensive Environmental Health and Safety programs across Ginkgo's sites, including the autonomous lab in Boston. Objectives: ensure regulatory compliance, optimize laboratory safety, and support infrastructure expansion. Responsibilities: manage permits (EPA, OSHA, CLIA), support EH&S management systems, lead program development and site-specific safety initiatives, conduct audits, develop training, and collaborate cross-functionally with Facilities, Technical Teams, and Contractors within a lean team environment. Qualifications: BS/BA in Science, Occupational Safety & Health, or related field; 4+ years in laboratory or manufacturing EH&S management; experience with Chemical Hygiene and regulated environments such as CLIA or FDA; strong communication skills. Preferred: Master's degree; CLIA familiarity; experience with process improvements and modern tools, including AI. WorkSetup: primarily on-site in Boston, with a return-to-office policy requiring 5 days/week presence.
