Role Summary

AbbVie’s International Commercial Business is seeking a highly skilled and experienced individual for its “Winning with Data” capability to join our team as an Associate Director of Data and Analytics Engineering. In this role, you will be responsible for leading the development and implementation of data engineering and analytics solutions. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to drive data-driven decision-making and enable advanced analytics capabilities across the organization. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker, a strong leader, and possesses a deep understanding of data engineering principles, analytics methodologies, and experience with Palantir Foundry (or other similar data management platforms).

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a team of data engineers and analytics professionals, providing guidance, mentoring, and performance management.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and prioritize data and analytics requirements, ensuring alignment with business goals and regulatory compliance.
  • Oversee the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of AbbVie's data management and analytics solutions using Palantir Foundry platform.
  • Drive the adoption and utilization of Palantir Foundry's capabilities to streamline data ingestion, data transformation, data quality, data governance, and analytics workflows.
  • Work closely with stakeholders like Data Product Managers, Capability Product Owners, Affiliates, Customer Excellence to understand their data needs, challenges, and opportunities, and translate them into scalable and efficient data solutions.
  • Define and implement data governance strategies, ensuring data quality, integrity, and security in adherence to regulations and internal policies.
  • Develop and optimize data pipelines, data transformation processes, and data models to enable efficient and reliable data consumption by various business units.
  • Drive the adoption of advanced analytics techniques, such as machine learning, predictive modeling, and data visualization, leveraging Palantir Foundry's capabilities.
  • Track key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the effectiveness and impact of data and analytics initiatives on commercial operations.
  • Provide thought leadership and contribute to the development of data and analytics strategies, roadmaps, and best practices.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in computer science, data engineering, bioinformatics, or a related field with 9 years’ experience; Master's Degree with 8 years’ experience; PhD with 4 years’ experience.
  • Proven experience (8+ years) in data engineering, analytics engineering, or a similar role, preferably within the pharmaceutical or life sciences industry.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire a diverse team of professionals.
  • Deep understanding and hands-on experience with Palantir Foundry or other similar data management platforms, including data governance, data modeling, and analytics capabilities.
  • Proficiency in programming languages commonly used in data engineering, such as Python, SQL, and/or Scala.
  • Experience with big data technologies, such as Hadoop, Spark, or NoSQL databases, and familiarity with cloud platforms, such as AWS or Azure.
  • Solid understanding of analytics methodologies, including machine learning, predictive modeling, and data visualization techniques.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to translate complex business requirements and scientific concepts into technical solutions.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders in a highly regulated environment.
  • Knowledge of pharmaceutical industry regulations, such as data privacy laws, is highly desirable.
