Role Summary
Associate Director, Data & Analytics โ Data Engineer/Scientist to shape the enterprise data landscape at a life sciences organization. In this senior leadership role, you will define and execute a holistic data strategy that empowers the pharmaceutical/biotech business, enabling advanced business intelligence, automating data governance workflows, and supporting predictive modeling initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Data Strategy and Governance: Develop and execute a comprehensive data management and analytics strategy that aligns with organizational goals
- Establish and enforce data governance policies, standards, and best practices
- Maintain strict compliance with healthcare laws and guidelines (e.g. FDA regulations, GxP, HIPAA) and global data privacy standards (GDPR, CCPA)
- Master Data Management, Data Quality, And Integration: Define and implement an MDM roadmap; define data quality standards and assurance processes
- Facilitate data integration across systems for a unified view of organizational data
- Monitor data quality metrics and address data issues
- Establish data catalog, metadata management, and data dictionary; implement data security protocols and access controls
- Conduct regular data audits and risk assessments to ensure compliance
- Evaluate and implement modern data technologies and tools; manage vendor relationships for data management, integration, and analytics solutions
- Data Analytics And Reporting: Lead BI and analytics teams; develop and deliver KPIs and dashboards; ensure data is readily available for insights
- Architecture And Infrastructure: Oversee design and maintenance of data architectures (data warehouses, data lakes, pipelines); collaborate with Infrastructure for scalability and performance
- Evaluate data management technologies; demonstrate cloud architecture knowledge; manage cloud infrastructure (Azure and AWS)
- Drive implementation of a single source of truth for critical data across R&D, clinical, commercial, and medical functions
- AI-Driven Analytics: Leverage AI/ML to enhance data capabilities; implement AI/ML solutions to automate data cleansing and governance, detect data anomalies, and power predictive modeling
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with departments to understand data needs and deliver solutions that support various functions, fostering a data-driven culture
Qualifications
- Bachelorโs degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, or related field (Masterโs or PhD preferred)
- 7+ years of progressive experience in data strategy, data architecture, analytics, or related fields, with at least 5 years in a leadership role; biotech/pharma/healthcare experience preferred
- Proven expertise in modern data architectures and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Databricks, Snowflake); experience with data warehousing/lakes, ETL/ELT, BI tools, and AI/ML frameworks
- Strong understanding of data governance (data quality, MDM, metadata management, data lifecycle) and data privacy/security regulations (HIPAA, GDPR, CCPA; GxP, 21 CFR Part 11)
- Strategic thinker with strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
- Analytical with project management experience and a bias for innovation and continuous improvement
- Passion for leveraging data/AI to advance healthcare and patient outcomes
