Organization Overview

The Engineering Tech Center is part of the overall Corporate Engineering team for Lilly. This team is responsible for subject matter expertise with several aspects of engineering disciplines along with program ownership for key programs across the corporation.

Position Overview

The Associate Director – Corporate Engineering Services position has overall responsibility for supervision, safety, performance, and development of direct-reporting employees. This Associate Director role will provide leadership to multiple engineering disciplines – civil engineers, loss prevention engineer, power/electrical engineers, document control for corporate engineering, and engineering document management programs (e.g. engineering standards, best practices, master specifications). The team consists of 10-12 Lilly engineers and staff associated plus additional external contingent workers when needed. This role will manage and monitor business results, compliance, productivity improvement, and overall customer service for the team, while streamlining processes, prioritizing work. This leadership position will also support the overall corporate design, delivery, and on-going asset management of the types of assets owned by each of the listed disciplines. In addition, this role will provide leadership to the team and sites for introduction of new technology and new approaches in these disciplines by actively pursuing external focus and benchmarking.

Key Objectives/Deliverables

  • Lead HR processes, including performance management, compensation management, reward and recognition, talent assessment, promotion, recruiting, and succession planning for a team of 10-12 individuals. Coach and develop team members. Support and lead diversity and inclusion efforts for the team.
  • Support Engineering Tech Center team strategy, business planning, and team building activities.
  • Engineering Discipline and Technical Leadership – Own and manage engineering standards, master specifications and engineering best practices that relate to the civil, electrical, and loss prevention engineering disciplines at Lilly. Sponsor communities of practice for these disciplines for Lilly.
  • Knowledge Sharing – Provide technical coaching and mentoring to Lilly engineers. Document learning through peer-reviewed technical documents. Facilitate shared learning forums such as conferences and user groups.
  • Project Delivery Leadership – Support capital project delivery through resourcing of key subject matter experts. Monitor and act on key performance metrics for team performance on project delivery goals.
  • External Influence and Benchmarking - Monitor and influence external industry trends for equipment, system and even digital technologies and solutions.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related science field
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in engineering or related functional areas
  • Demonstrated knowledge of design and project delivery methodologies and experience is executing those strategies on capital projects.
  • Demonstrated leadership in an engineering field

Additional Skills/Preferences

  • Knowledge in conduct of key engineering principles within the civil/structural discipline, electrical power discipline, and loss prevention discipline
  • Knowledge of project management and vendor management
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Experience in Capital project delivery
  • Knowledge of document management programs and processes, including software packages that support those programs.
  • cGMP Regulatory knowledge

Additional Information

  • This position supports Lilly’s drug product and drug substance network globally and may require US and OUS travel (up to 15%) as well as off-hour meetings due to time zone differences.
  • Monday through Friday, Day Shift. This is NOT a remote position and requires an onsite presence.

Compensation and Benefits

Actual compensation will depend on a candidate’s education, experience, skills, and geographic location. The anticipated wage for this position is

$118,500 - $191,400

Full-time equivalent employees also will be eligible for a company bonus (depending, in part, on company and individual performance).
