Role Summary

Associate Director – Capital Procurement Performance and Governance leads the design, construction, modification, and qualification of administrative, development, and manufacturing facilities. This role standardizes capital procurement processes to ensure consistent, predictable project delivery aligned with cost and schedule objectives, and supports acquiring engineering, automation, equipment, and construction services through category-based strategies, supplier selection, contract negotiation, and relationship management.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and standardize capital procurement processes across projects, including business partner agreements, procurement strategy, market engagement, sourcing and contracting, claims management, and supplier relationship management.
  • Develop and implement global metrics to measure procurement effectiveness and compliance.
  • Foster cross-functional collaboration focused on project execution, talent development, training, and knowledge sharing.
  • Provide strategic insights into project risks and the global capital plan; implement mitigation strategies aligned with Lilly’s long-term goals.
  • Maintain external visibility of best-in-class procurement practices through benchmarking and technology adoption.
  • Influence global project teams and senior leadership to develop comprehensive procurement strategies that ensure predictable performance.
  • Ensure consistent sourcing practices across engineering, construction, equipment, and automation categories.
  • Contribute to robust category strategies and supplier risk management aligned with market conditions and business needs.
  • Mentor and develop procurement talent through coaching, training, and experiential learning.
  • Collaborate with audit teams to embed world-class controls in contracts and procurement strategies.
  • Participate in governance activities to provide commercial leadership, foster collaboration, and drive strategic problem-solving.
  • Support post-funding project execution through close collaboration with procurement teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, supply chain, procurement, or a related field.
  • Minimum 7 years of capital procurement sourcing experience.
  • Authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis (no visa sponsorship provided).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proven leadership in capital project procurement for design, construction, equipment, and commissioning on projects exceeding $1B.
  • Mastery of core sourcing skills: account management, category strategy, spend analysis, negotiation, and supplier relationship management.
  • Demonstrated leadership and mentoring capabilities.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to influence and collaborate across teams without formal reporting lines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience in procurement project management, process design, and governance.
  • Familiarity with capital project controls, metrics, and governance.
  • Leadership experience in cGMP environments and manufacturing processes.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, supply chain, procurement, or related field.
