Associate Director, AI/ML Engineering
Primary Responsibilities:
- Lead design, development, deployment, monitoring, and maintenance of reusable software components for reliable/scalable AI/ML workflows, tools, and applications.
- Collaborate in a matrix environment to identify research questions, scope data requirements, and develop AI/ML solutions.
- Provide tactical and strategic technical support for AI/ML Researchers and Data Scientists.
- Stay current on AI/ML research and operations; propose innovative approaches aligned with industry standards.
Required Qualifications:
- PhD in CS/Physics/EE/Biomedical Eng/Bioinformatics/Computational Biology/Genetics-Genomics or related STEM with 4+ years post-grad academic medical or industry experience; OR MS with 7+ years; OR BS with 11+ years.
- Experience enabling teammates with best-in-class AI/ML tools and pipelines.
- Excellent communication/interpersonal skills; team-focused, cross-disciplinary collaboration.
- Self-starter able to lead projects independently.
Required Skills/Experience:
- Python, Torch/PyTorch, AWS, MLflow, Docker, GitHub, GitHub Actions CI/CD.
- Build/deploy/scale novel AI/ML pipelines (incl. transformer-based foundation models and representation learning).
- Full SDLC for maintaining Python packages and Docker images using modern DevSecOps best practices.
- Willingness to learn/teach; interest in life sciences and agentic co-scientist environments.
Nice to Have:
- Multi-omics and imaging data; Claude Code, Databricks, GCP.
Preferred/Listed Skills:
- Agile SDLC, AI, Biological Sciences, Cross-functional collaboration, Data engineering/modeling/science/visualization, Foundation models, GitHub Actions, Life science, ML algorithms, Python software development, Stakeholder relationship management, Transformer models.
