The Finance team is looking for an Associate Director, Accounting.
Responsibilities
- Oversee day-to-day accounting operations: payroll, general ledger, month-end close; review journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
- Partner with People Operations and a third-party payroll provider to ensure accurate, compliant, and timely payroll.
- Own SOX 404 and internal controls for assigned processes (documentation, risk assessments, control design, testing, remediation) and liaise with internal/external auditors.
- Manage, mentor, and develop the accounting team; partner with FP&A, People Ops, and IT.
- Drive continuous improvement and scalability; support accounting system controls (user access/change management); ensure accounting policies/procedures documentation are current and scalable.
Qualifications / Required Skills
- Bachelorβs degree in Accounting/Finance or related field; 10+ years progressive accounting experience; CPA preferred.
- Proven experience leading payroll operations and month-end close.
- People management experience (2+ direct reports).
- Deep SOX 404/internal controls experience in a public company environment.
- Solid US GAAP knowledge and public company requirements.
- Experience supporting external audits with direct auditor interaction.
- On-site availability 2β3x/week.
- Hands-on NetSuite and ADP required; Coupa preferred.
Preferred
- Big 4 public accounting experience.
- Biotech and/or pre-revenue R&D experience.
Compensation/Benefits (if applicable)
- $187,000β$229,000 annual salary (SF Bay Area) plus annual performance bonus; medical/dental/vision, mental health offerings, equity incentive plan, 401(k) match, and generous holiday/PTO.
