About The Role
As a Design Manager, you will lead people, set creative direction, and operate as a strategic partner to the business—contributing directly to the quality of team deliverables while building culture, structure, and processes for great design at scale. This role is more strongly focused on visual and UI design, with depth in visual systems, design language, and aesthetic direction.
Core Responsibilities
- Lead with craft; contribute directly to work quality.
- Establish and communicate creative vision.
- Manage, mentor, and develop designers; own growth conversations and day-to-day direction.
- Partner with product, engineering, and business stakeholders; position design as strategic.
- Evaluate and raise bar on UX and UI/Visual deliverables; hybrid craft required.
- Attract, hire, and retain design talent; build a culture of craft excellence and continuous learning.
- Run design operations (workload, staffing, critique structure, delivery processes).
- Set and uphold high visual quality (clarity, accessibility, polish, system consistency) across LillyDirect.
- Stay hands-on; provide design direction while managing others.
- Establish design direction across workstreams; shape broader stakeholder conversations.
- Drive design system evolution and visual quality standards.
- Set the bar for visual craft in critique; ensure coherent brand expression.
- Lead hybrid product designers with stronger emphasis on visual craft.
Basic Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Design, HCI, or related field; OR high school diploma/GED with 7+ years equivalent experience.
- 7+ years design experience, including 2+ years in design leadership/management.
- Strong portfolio showing craft depth and team leadership.
- Legally authorized to work in the United States (no anticipated visa sponsorship).
Additional Preferences
- Hybrid craft capability (meaningful critique on UX and UI/Visual work).
- Track record mentoring/developing designers.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management at senior levels.
