Role Summary

The Associate Outsourcing Director serves as a Category Manager within the Strategic Sourcing and Procurement department, leading and overseeing the assigned category and vendor pool. This role acts as the main business point of contact for their categories, guiding operational execution and strategy to optimize spend, strengthen relationships, and enable business objectives within a global oncology context.

Responsibilities

  • Work with SS&P leadership to support development and maintenance of SS&P processes and policies.
  • Provide thought leadership to drive category strategy development with SS&P leadership and business units.
  • Develop trusted, collaborative stakeholder relationships with increasing seniority within business units.
  • Provide business units with advice, expertise, and support.
  • Lead vendor evaluation activities (RFIs/RFPs) and the selection process, including vendor presentations, demonstrations, bid defenses, and award notifications; drive process development and optimization.
  • Develop mature contracting models and support option analysis or development of strategic partnerships.
  • Lead vendor contracting with internal/external stakeholders, including scopes of work, budgets, payment schedules, and out-of-scope management; manage PO initiation, revisions, and close-out; manage contract and budget lifecycle.
  • Establish a robust framework for supplier contract and budget management and conduct regular business reviews.
  • Maximize value of vendor relationships and minimize risk post-contract via supplier relationship management efforts.
  • Collaborate with Strategic Supplier Relationship teams to manage vendor costs, value improvements, performance, quality, timelines, and risks across the contract lifecycle.
  • Support triage, resolution, and escalation of vendor issues from SS&P team members, business owners, and vendors.
  • Lead SS&P meetings with stakeholders and suppliers, especially in Vendor Governance or Business Reviews.
  • Build and maintain relationships with current and prospective vendors through honesty and trust.
  • Represent SS&P at Exelixis Project Team meetings when applicable.
  • Collaborate with Legal to ensure vendor terms address business needs and protect interests before contract execution.
  • Manage end-to-end SOW and contract development/execution workflow for low-risk contracts using CLM; drive process optimization.
  • Liaise with Legal on timely execution of various contract types (NDAs, MSAs, SAs, Work/Task Orders, Amendments, Change Orders, etc.).
  • Coordinate with Operations on vendor payment status, reconciliation, and contract close-out.
  • Partner with FP&A and Accounting to support vendor accrual and forecasting.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelorโ€šร„รดs degree in a related discipline with 11+ years of related experience; or Masterโ€šร„รดs degree with 9+ years; or Doctoral degree with 5+ years; or equivalent.
  • Experience in the pharmaceutical and/or biotechnology industry is required.
  • Experience in pharmaceutical/biotech R&D outsourcing, purchasing, supplier relationship management, and/or procurement roles required; supervisory/management experience preferred.

Skills

  • Strategic and operational procurement knowledge, including processes, negotiations, models, risks, and trends; industry knowledge a plus.
  • Working knowledge of financial processes (budgeting, accruals, forecasting, invoicing, POs, etc.); knowledge of regulatory and financial controls a plus.
  • Knowledge of contracts and terms/conditions, with contract exhibits (SOWs, budgets, payment schedules, etc.); industry regulations a plus.
  • Proven negotiation, change management, and stakeholder collaboration skills in high-expense/risk contracts.
  • Self-starter with strong collaboration, independence, and adaptability in fast-paced environments.
  • Strong analytical, negotiation, financial, problem-solving, and communication skills; ability to present to diverse audiences including executives.
  • Detail-oriented with strong deliverables quality; risk identification and communication capabilities.
  • Customer-service orientation and relationship-building skills; ability to influence without direct authority.
  • Proficient computer skills (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint); quick learner of new systems; experience with Ariba, Agiloft or similar CLM, Jira Service Management preferred.
