Role Summary

Associate Chemist Assistant at Viatris. The role supports laboratory operations by operating equipment, preparing solutions, assisting in calibration and record-keeping of laboratory instruments, calculating raw data, and performing general cleaning and maintenance of the laboratory. The position requires basic chemistry knowledge, manual dexterity, attention to detail, and the ability to follow instructions under supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Operate laboratory equipment including, but not limited to, analytical balance, pH meter, dissolution apparatus, particle size analyzer, titrators, and UV spectrophotometers, under the direction of a supervisor.
  • Prepare solutions (i.e. buffers, mobile phases, diluents) as per prescribed procedures.
  • Assist in the calibration and record keeping of certain laboratory equipment.
  • Calculate raw data by calculator or computer.
  • Perform general cleaning and maintenance of laboratory.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 0-2 years of experience. However, a combination of experience and/or education will be taken into consideration.
  • Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination; ability to work with complex lab equipment, chemicals, and fragile glassware; strong attention to detail; ability to take instruction in both oral and written form; analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret general business documents; ability to write routine reports and general business correspondence; ability to work with peers and communicate basic concepts.
  • Knowledge of basic math and chemistry; ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide.
  • Ability to solve practical problems through standardized solutions that require limited judgment; ability to follow prescribed and detailed procedures to solve routine problems.

Additional Requirements

  • Physical demands: typically sitting at a desk or table; intermittently sitting, standing, walking, or stooping; may be required to stand, walk, stoop, bend, kneel, and climb steps; may require use of hands and arms; light lifting requirements.
  • Work environment: normal chemical laboratory and office setting.
