Role Summary

As the Assistant General Counsel, ViiV Healthcare US Legal, you will support the success of ViiV Healthcare’s US commercial organization, counseling on a wide range of activities critical to the commercialization of HIV medicines. You will serve as a key legal advisor to senior business leaders, enabling strategic decision-making and ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations. This role requires exceptional judgment, strategic thinking, and a strong commitment to delivering pragmatic legal solutions in a dynamic environment. This role is based out of ViiV's US Headquarters in Durham, NC (RTP Area) and is eligible for a domestic relocation package.

Responsibilities

  • US Legal Support: Serve as the primary legal advisor for ViiV Healthcare’s US teams, including marketing, sales, and medical affairs functions. Provide counsel on promotional and non-promotional initiatives, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations, including FDA promotional rules, healthcare fraud and abuse laws, anti-bribery and corruption laws, privacy regulations, and competition laws.
  • Strategic Partnering: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including medical, regulatory, and compliance colleagues, to support the development and execution of commercial strategies. Anticipate and advise on changes in the external legal environment to ensure organizational preparedness.
  • Leadership and Development: Lead and develop a team of legal professionals that includes product attorneys and a contracting specialist. Continuously improve processes for legal support.
  • Compliance and Risk Management: Partner with Compliance to proactively mitigate identified areas of risk in the US commercial organization. Provide clear and actionable guidance to business stakeholders on legal risks and opportunities. Help teams navigate a complex and changing external environment.

Qualifications

  • Required: JD, licensed to practice law in at least one US state.
  • Required: 8+ years of experience practicing law, including in-house experience in the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Required: Experience in US healthcare laws and regulations, including anti-kickback compliance and FDA advertising and promotion.
  • Preferred: Experience providing legal support regarding provider administered medicines or vaccines.
  • Preferred: Proven experience displaying high levels of accountability and independence.
  • Preferred: Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to navigate a matrix organization and influence without direct authority.
  • Preferred: Demonstrated leadership managing a team.
  • Preferred: Experience advising on privacy, digital innovation, and data-driven commercial strategies.
