What You'll Do
- Provide end-to-end IP counsel, including IP counsel for early-discovery assets, managing global patent prosecution strategy, leading freedom-to-operate (FTO) analysis for BD transactions, and advising commercial teams on exclusivity positions before product launch.
Responsibilities
- Own patent preparation and prosecution across global markets, focused on building meaningful exclusivity from discovery through life-cycle management.
- Lead freedom-to-operate assessments for drug development, commercialization, and strategic transactions; identify and mitigate risk with clear, actionable guidance.
- Provide IP counsel across the full asset lifecycle, including exclusivity strategy and operating in competitive environments.
- Advise cross-functional teams (R&D, BD, Regulatory, Commercial) with timely, business-relevant IP counsel.
- Support U.S. and ex-U.S. adversarial proceedings as they arise (inter partes reviews, post-grant reviews, EP oppositions, patent litigation).

Who You Are
- J.D. from an accredited law school; admission to at least one U.S. state bar; registered to practice before the USPTO; eligible to practice in California or able to obtain a limited license for in-house counsel.
- 10+ years of pharmaceutical or life sciences IP experience (top firm and/or in-house preferred).
- Advanced degree in organic or medicinal chemistry (or related scientific discipline) preferred.
- Experience in adversarial proceedings on both sides of the border.
- Ability to translate technical/legal complexity into clear business advice and prioritize under pressure.
