Position Overview
- Lead accounting and financial reporting, internal controls, and SEC/U.S. GAAP compliance (including SOX). Report to the Corporate Controller while managing accounting operations.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & SEC Compliance
- Lead, supervise, and mentor the accounting team to ensure accurate and timely monthly/quarterly/annual close.
- Review close deliverables (journal entries, reconciliations, supporting schedules) for completeness and accuracy.
- Ensure timely internal and external financial statement production.
- Maintain compliance with U.S. GAAP; monitor emerging standards (FASB, SEC guidance).
- Prepare/review SEC filings (10-K, 10-Q, 8-K) for accuracy, completeness, and disclosure compliance.
- Liaise with external auditors during quarterly reviews and the annual audit.
- Collaborate cross-functionally and with FP&A to align reporting with forecasting.
Technical Accounting and Policy
- Provide technical accounting guidance for revenue recognition, R&D expense accounting, inventory/valuation, and debt/equity arrangements.
- Draft, implement, and maintain accounting policies (white papers as needed).
- Lead implementation of new accounting standards and coordinate impact assessments.
Annual Audit, Internal Controls & SOX Compliance
- Prepare schedules/supporting documentation for auditors.
- Assist with annual audits and quarterly reviews.
- Support internal controls under Section 404 of SOX.
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance reporting and financial systems.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting; CPA preferred.
- 15+ years related experience.
- Public accounting and mid-sized public biotech/pharma experience preferred.
- Strong U.S. GAAP and SEC reporting knowledge.
- Experience with month-close accruals and reconciliations.
- In-depth SOX knowledge and ability to implement/maintain controls and accounting policies.
- Strong analytical/problem-solving and judgment; high attention to detail.
- Strong project management; ability to prioritize multiple initiatives.
- Collaborative, consultative team player in a fast-paced environment.
Salary Range
- $200,000 USD - $227,000 USD
