Role Summary

Asset Strategy Leader, Neuroscience — enterprise-wide accountability for an asset from discovery to end of life cycle. Location options include Lake County, IL or other AbbVie locations.

Responsibilities

  • Chairs an Asset Strategy Team (AST) and ensures alignment across five core deliverable teams, serving as the asset’s primary point of contact for PCM Governance and senior management.
  • Leads the creation and endorsement of an integrated cross-functional strategy for all aspects of product development and commercialization, aligning with PCM Governance and TASC.
  • Builds collaborative relationships with governance team members and executives for timely, multi-directional interactions with PCM Governance at milestones and when program issues or opportunities arise.
  • Reviews and analyzes emerging data to guide AST toward opportunities, risk mitigation, and actionable recommendations.
  • Ensures appropriate resourcing and budget alignment; champions requests for incremental resources; coordinates with supporting teams to keep plans consistent with asset and brand strategy.
  • Validates program viability from scientific and commercial perspectives; develops Go/No-Go decision points and presents data to PCM Governance and senior management.
  • Fosters empowerment, delegation, and alignment across team members; coaches and mentors; enables AST to focus on strategy and communication.
  • Represents AST in external interactions (e.g., Advisory Boards, regulatory engagements) with executive presence.
  • Maintains awareness of competitive landscape and industry trends; understands AbbVie’s asset positioning relative to competitors.
  • Leads a high-potential single indication or high-profile multi-indication asset.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree required; Advanced degree highly preferred (e.g., PhD, MBA).
  • 5+ years (10+ preferred) in pharmaceutical/biotech with deep expertise in drug development and/or commercialization; experience across multiple therapy areas and development stages; familiarity with small molecules and biologics preferred.
  • Strong strategic thinking, collaboration, leadership, problem-solving; ability to rapidly assimilate new knowledge and apply to asset strategy.
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams, globally; track record of leading asset teams in AbbVie or other organizations.
  • Ability to make pragmatic, independent decisions, manage uncertainty, and obtain stakeholder input for informed decisions.
  • Ability to lead and motivate cross-functional teams; effective delegation and decision-making across supporting functions.
  • Proven track record of strategic success in complex matrix environments; able to operate with minimal oversight.
  • Ability to challenge team members constructively and manage conflict to assess opportunities, risks, and mitigations.
  • Excellent oral and written English communication skills with executive presence.
