We are getting closer to achieving this goal every day and are preparing to launch our first commercial product for Thyroid Eye Disease (TED), a rare, vision-threatening autoimmune condition.
As we build our field organization from the ground up, we are seeking two experienced and inspiring Area Business Directors (2nd-line leaders) to lead our sales team during this pivotal first launch.
Each ABD will oversee a team of Regional Sales Directors (1st-line leaders) and will be responsible for strategic regional execution, coaching and developing sales leadership, fostering cross-functional collaboration, and driving performance against national objectives.
This role requires strong cross-functional collaboration across the commercial ecosystem. The Area Business Director will work in close partnership with leadership across Market Access, Field Medical, Marketing, Commercial Operations, and Sales Training to ensure strategic alignment, seamless customer experiences, and continuous improvement across the field organization.
Reporting to the Vice President, Sales & Marketing, this role is a senior commercial leadership position with the opportunity to shape strategy, culture, execution, and success for Viridianβs first commercial launch.
This is a remote role with candidates required to live in the corresponding geographic area.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & People Development
- Lead, mentor, and inspire a team of Regional Sales Directors, with a strong emphasis on developing their leadership capabilities, business acumen, and coaching effectiveness.
- Establish a culture of continuous improvement by encouraging self-reflection, proactive learning, and the regular sharing of best practices across the leadership team.
- Promote a positive, high-energy team environment that balances accountability and performance with engagement, trust, and fun. Celebrate wins, recognize contributions, and build a sense of shared purpose across the region.
- Actively contribute to shaping and reinforcing a first-launch culture that prioritizes excellence, agility, and the growth and wellbeing of our people.
Regional Execution & Strategic Alignment
- Work with each RSD to translate national brand and sales strategies into actionable regional and territory-level execution plans.
- Ensure aligned targeting, messaging, and engagement strategies across customer types, including ophthalmology specialists, endocrinologists, infusion centers, and referral networks.
- Oversee deployment of field resources, marketing programs, and support tools that enable regional success.
Business Planning & Performance Management
- Provide performance coaching to RSDs and ensure disciplined execution of call plans, customer segmentation, and tactical plans.
- Monitor and analyze field performance, competitive dynamics, and market trends to drive continuous improvement.
- Partner with the Sr. Director, Field Effectiveness to execute regional business reviews to identify areas for improvement, align on necessary adjustments, share best practices and celebrate success.
Cross-Functional Partnership
- Collaborate closely with Marketing, Field Medical, Market Access, Training, and Commercial Operations to ensure cohesive field execution and consistent customer experience.
- Represent the regional field perspective in national meetings, launch planning forums, and resource development discussions.
- Facilitate two-way communication between the field and headquarters to ensure feedback, insights, and market needs are clearly understood.
Key Customer & Market Engagement
- Establish and maintain relationships with key opinion leaders, influential practices, and strategic accounts across the region.
- Support complex account engagement and pull-through strategies in collaboration with internal partners.
Qualifications:
- Bachelorβs degree required; advanced degree preferred (MBA, PharmD, etc.)
- 12+ years of progressive sales and leadership experience in biotech/pharma; experience in other commercial functions (Commercial Operations, Marketing, Training) preferred
- 3+ years of second-line (multi-district) leadership experience preferred
- Proven success launching specialty or rare disease products, particularly in buy-and-bill and complex referral ecosystems
- Deep understanding of specialty sales models, specialty pharmacy distribution, business planning, KPIs, and customer engagement strategy
- Demonstrated ability to hire, develop, and lead high-performing field teams over time
- Strong analytical, strategic, and communication skills
- Willingness to travel extensively (up to 60β70%), including regular field visits and HQ meetings
- The salary range for this position is commensurate with experience
