Role Summary
Animal Technician supporting day-to-day operations and execution of scientific research at the Phibro Innovation Center in Mendon, IL. This role involves hands-on work with animals, assisting scientists and research coordinators with animal care, handling, data collection, and facility maintenance, and participating in all BSL-2 studies at the facility.
Responsibilities
- Animal Care and Husbandry: Provide daily care and husbandry for laboratory animals, including feeding, watering, cleaning and monitoring animal health; Administer treatments as directed by research protocols or veterinarians.
- Research Support: Assist scientists and research coordinators in setting up experiments and collecting data; Monitor animals during experiments, recording observations and reporting any abnormalities.
- Facility Maintenance: Ensure cleanliness and sanitation of animal holding areas and equipment; Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of research facilities.
- Safety Compliance: Ensure compliance with safety regulations, including the handling and disposal of chemicals and hazardous materials; Follow biosecurity protocols and SOPs for all research studies.
- Equipment Operation: Operate and maintain specialized equipment used in animal research.
Qualifications
- Preferred: Previous experience working with animals in a research or clinical setting.
- Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic research environment.
- Ability to work on a weekend and holiday rotation.
Education
- Bachelorβs degree in a relevant field (animal science, biology, veterinary, etc) is preferred, but not required.
Skills
- Extremely high level of attention to detail and high standard of quality.
- Interpersonal skills sufficient to communicate verbally and in writing with others in an objective and cooperative manner.
