Animal Care Technician
Responsibilities:
- Assist with routine husbandry care and maintenance of animals, including feeding, watering, cage changing, and health checking in the vivarium
- Apply technical knowledge to perform daily observations of animal health status and report changes in environment and/or animals
- Perform environmental monitoring and complete associated documentation
- Change and clean cages, equipment, water bottles, and food
- Unpack and house animals upon arrival
- Provide janitorial maintenance of facility rooms and stock supplies
- Perform preventative maintenance of animal facility equipment and supplies
- Perform monthly sanitation of equipment and the facility
- Maintain accurate records of animals, supplies, and equipment; restock supplies as needed
Qualifications / Skills:
- Interest in science
- Ability to work on a team and coordinate with others
- Strong attention to detail
- Comfortable asking questions and providing feedback
- High School Diploma or equivalent technical certificate
- Pursuit of Purina and/or AALAS certification at the ALAT level (desired; required after first year)
- Minimum of one year experience in animal care is helpful
- Ability to lift 30 pounds
- Must pass a physical before beginning employment
- Ability to work weekends and holidays (essential personnel)
