Animal Care Technician (Thousand Oaks, CA)
What You Will Do
Maintain a world-class animal facility supporting discovery of new medicines (including oncology, heart disease, and inflammation).
Key Responsibilities:
- Care for laboratory animals
- Follow guidance documents to perform assigned tasks
- Perform husbandry activities (cage change, cage wash, facility sanitation)
- Perform and report daily health observations
- Handle and restrain laboratory animals, notably rodents
- Assist with receiving, housing, and shipping
- Monitor inventory of animal feed, bedding, enrichment, and other supplies
- Operate husbandry-related equipment (cage wash, autoclave, laminar air flow cabinets, other equipment)
- Wash, autoclave, and prepare caging and equipment
- May support scientific techniques as directed
- Maintain and organize lab spaces (5S, lean management)
- Provide supplies and support for investigators; establish effective work relationships and participate in teams
- Full-time (40 hrs/week); weekend coverage rotationally and overtime as needed
Basic Qualifications:
- Associate’s degree + 2 years relevant experience
- OR 2 years technical school with hands-on experience
- OR High school diploma/GED + 4 years relevant experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- RVT, BS/BA, and/or Associates in animal science/biology (or related)
- AALAS certification
- Animal care/production experience (lab, veterinary, boarding, agriculture, factory, etc.)
- In vivo rodent skills (handling, sample collections)
- PPE capability; physical ability to stand/walk/bend/kneel and occasionally move up to 50 lbs
- Organizational/interpersonal/communication skills; team-oriented
- Basic computer skills (Outlook, Excel, Word) and ability to fill online forms
- Ability to read/write/speak/understand English
- Warehouse or housekeeping experience
