Responsibilities
- Design, execute, and interpret upstream development experiments for bioproduct active pharmaceutical ingredients (incl. protein intermediates for bioconjugation).
- Troubleshoot technical issues; drive innovation using novel ideas/technologies.
- Collaborate on cross-functional process development teams (BR&D, Discovery, Technical Services for Manufacturing, Manufacturing).
- Support transfer of cell culture processes to pilot plant and manufacturing sites.
- Author technical reports and regulatory documents.
- Work with external parties on development projects, collaborations, and outsourcing.
- Engage externally via conferences, presentations, and publications; identify and incorporate outside process innovations.
- Ensure work aligns with Development Quality, Regulatory, HSE, GLP, and GMP requirements.
- Provide technical leadership, guidance, and mentorship.

Basic Requirements
- PhD in Microbiology/Cell Biology/Molecular Biology/Biology/Chemical Engineering (or related), or BS + >12 years, or MS + >8 years relevant industrial experience.
- Knowledge of cell biology/cell culture/molecular biology with recombinant protein expression focus.
- Understanding of upstream scaling and mitigation of potential issues.
- Extensive experience designing experiments, interpreting data, and documenting independently.
- Strong communication and organization; ability to be a point of accountability.

Additional Preferences
- Cell line development, gene expression, vector design.
- Hands-on experience with cell line generation; fed-batch and/or perfusion; bioreactor control; parameter optimization.
- Experience integrating automation and AI for process development/data management.
- Strong problem-solving and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Compensation/Benefits (if eligible)
- Anticipated wage: $126,000–$204,600; may include company bonus.
