Position Overview
Scientist (IC) in Lilly’s Investigative Toxicology group, New Approach Methodologies (NAMs)/Complex In Vitro Models (CIVMs) pillar. Primarily laboratory-based role anchoring Lilly’s cardiovascular safety NAMs capability.

Key Responsibilities
- Qualify and apply human-relevant in vitro cardiovascular models (hiPSC-CMs, hiPSC-ECs, 2D electrophysiology, 3D EHTs, cardiac organoids, vessel-on-a-chip).
- Conduct mechanistic investigations of compound-induced liabilities: proarrhythmia/QT/AP prolongation, cardiomyopathy, mitochondrial cardiotoxicity, contractile dysfunction, DIVI, endothelial dysfunction/barrier disruption.
- Implement/qualify electrophysiology and contractility readouts (MEA field potentials, calcium imaging, sarcomere shortening/contractility assays, impedance platforms); adopt emerging technologies within/beyond the CiPA framework.
- Use 3D platforms (EHTs/COs) for mechanistic and chronic dosing studies to capture structural/vascular injury endpoints.
- Serve as primary scientific resource for follow-on in vitro investigations; collaborate with in silico ADMET Intelligence for tiered decision frameworks.
- Evaluate emerging cardiovascular NAMs technologies; recommend platforms for adoption.
- Coordinate with CROs and academic partners (study design, data quality, deliverables).
- Monitor regulatory/consortium developments; publish/present externally.

Minimum Requirements
- PhD in Pharmacology, Physiology, Biomedical Engineering, Toxicology, or related field with training in cardiac/vascular biology or cardiovascular electrophysiology.
- Advisor (R5): 2+ years postdoctoral/industry hands-on experience in advanced cardiovascular in vitro models.
- Senior Advisor (R6): 5+ years postdoctoral/industry experience with independent contributions, model qualification, and leadership.
- Hands-on experience in at least one: hiPSC-CM differentiation/functional characterization; MEA proarrhythmia assessment aligned to CiPA; 3D EHT functional assessment; endothelial cell/vessel-on-a-chip DIVI/vascular inflammation/barrier disruption.
- Independently design/implement experiments; manage concurrent projects and prioritize under drug discovery timelines.

Additional Skills / Preferences
- CiPA, ICH S7B/E14 Q&A, or FDA ISTAND NAMs qualification pathways.
- Human vascular wall microfluidic models with EC–smooth muscle bilayers under physiological shear (plus).
- Strong communication; high-content imaging/AI-ML/transcriptomics (bulk or scRNA-seq).
- Cardio-oncology compound assessment; mentoring/leading scientific activities.

Benefits/Compensation (as stated)
- Anticipated wage: $126,000–$204,600; company bonus (depending on performance).
