Role Summary

Advisor, Medicinal Chemistry role within Lillyβ€šΓ„Γ΄s Medicinal Chemistry group in South San Francisco, CA. Responsible for advancing synthetic chemistry and drug discovery programs from early lead generation to identification of clinical candidates.

Responsibilities

  • Apply and create innovative synthetic methodologies to enable novel small molecule design, solve synthetic challenges, and inform fast-paced SAR iterations through proposal and execution of synthetic routes in the laboratory
  • Design and synthesize novel small molecules; optimize lead compounds by improving potency, selectivity, physicochemical properties, and DMPK to meet target product profiles
  • Leverage structure-based drug design technologies; collaborate with computational chemistry and biophysics to characterize protein-ligand interactions and support de novo molecular design
  • Collaborate across fields; interact with pharmacology, translational science, ADME, and toxicology to address program needs and provide Medicinal Chemistry perspectives

Qualifications

  • PhD in organic chemistry
  • Masterβ€šΓ„Γ΄s degree with 7β€šΓ„Γ¬10+ years of experience

Skills

  • Strong Synthetic Organic Chemistry skills with extensive experience in modern synthetic methodologies, experimental work, isolation/purification, and structural analysis of synthetic organic molecules
  • Ability to stay current with literature on chemical transformations
  • Scientific creativity and ability to work independently, solving problems through careful experimental design, data analysis, and mechanistic insight
  • Proven track record of scientific contributions including peer-reviewed publications, patents, and presentations
  • Excellent English communication skills; ability to collaborate effectively in a multidisciplinary, international environment
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and scientific data tools (e.g., SciFinder, Reaxys) to identify literature
  • Strong work ethic, scientific curiosity, and proactive attitude
