Advisor, Medicinal Chemistry at Lilly in South San Francisco, CA. Join the Medicinal Chemistry group to push the boundaries of synthetic chemistry and drug discovery, from early lead generation to identification of clinical candidates.
Responsibilities
- Apply and create innovative synthetic methodologies to enable novel small molecule design and inform fast-paced SAR iterations
- Design and synthesize novel small molecules, optimizing lead compounds for potency, selectivity, physicochemical properties and DMPK
- Leverage structure-based drug design technologies with computational chemistry/biophysics to understand protein-ligand interactions and support de novo molecular design
- Collaborate across disciplines (pharmacology, translational science, ADME, toxicology) to address program needs and provide Medicinal Chemistry perspectives
Qualifications
- Minimum: PhD in organic chemistry; Masters with 7-10+ years of experience
Skills
- Strong Synthetic Organic Chemistry skills with deep knowledge of modern methods, purification techniques, and structural analysis
- Ability to stay current with literature on chemical transformations
- Scientific creativity and independent problem-solving through careful experimental design and data analysis
- Track record of contributions (peer-reviewed publications, patents, presentations)
- Excellent English communication skills, ability to collaborate in a multidisciplinary, international environment
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and scientific data tools (SciFinder, Reaxys, etc.)
- Strong work ethic and proactive attitude
