Role Summary

The Associate Director, Access & Reimbursement, Oncology – Tennessee-Alabama is a remote and field-based role covering Nashville, TN; Chattanooga, TN; Birmingham, AL; and the Florida panhandle. The role requires residence within the territory or within a reasonable daily commuting distance of 60 miles from the territory border. The ADAR provides education to defined accounts on access and reimbursement topics to support product strategy, acts as the patient access and reimbursement lead in account-focused discussions, and manages pull-through of access strategies and related operations within aligned accounts.

Responsibilities

  • Interact with large, complex accounts to support patient access within their aligned therapeutic area product(s), providing face-to-face education to providers and staff to integrate products into office workflows.
  • Address customer questions on NPC policies related to ordering, payment, inventorying, and returns/replacements in offices.
  • Collaborate with executives, providers, administrators, billing/coding staff, claims departments, and revenue cycle managers to support patient access.
  • Analyze problems and provide solutions for patient reimbursement; support reimbursement questions with third-party payers; identify trends and partner internally/externally to support patient access.
  • Support local coverage decisions to enable patient access; proactively communicate policy changes that impact other departments.
  • Inform customers about NPC-sponsored patient support programs (e.g., Co-pay) to help patients start and stay on therapy.
  • Maintain expertise in regional/local access landscape and act as the reimbursement expert for aligned products as needed.
  • Interface with the Patient Support Center and Access & Reimbursement Managers on patient case management, tracking, issue resolution, and staff education.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional NPC teams to share insights on customer needs and barriers related to access and reimbursement.
  • Maintain understanding of NPC policies and comply with privacy laws; handle PII appropriately.
  • Identify and report adverse events via established Novartis systems per applicable processes.

Buy and Bill Specific

  • Assess access in the geography and develop a Plan of Action (POA); communicate POA to relevant personnel.
  • Educate HCPs on acquisition pathways, buy-and-bill end-to-end processes, workflows, and facility pull-through in complex accounts, including centralized/decentralized acquisition and alternative care sites.
  • Educate stakeholders on logistics for ordering, payment, inventory, and returns/replacement.
  • Analyze reimbursement issues and act as the designated reimbursement expert for offices and field teams.
  • Engage non-prescribers (pharmacy, system leadership, financial counselors, office admins, revenue cycle managers, etc.) regarding Novartis medicines.

Qualifications

  • Required: Bachelor’s Degree. Business and/or biological science background preferred; advanced degree preferred.
  • Required: 5+ years of experience in pharmaceuticals/biotech focusing on Patient Services, Market Access, Sales, and/or account management; at least 2 years in a Patient Services practice support role for a specialty product.
  • Required: Experience with highly complex practices and/or health systems to establish access and acquisition pathways.
  • Required: Strategic account management experience with proactive approaches to anticipate access hurdles affecting accounts and patient access.
  • Required: Deep expertise in integrating manufacturer-sponsored patient support programs.
  • Required: Experience with specialty products acquired through Specialty Pharmacy networks; knowledge of reimbursement pathways (specialty pharmacy, buy-and-bill, retail).
  • Required: Strong understanding of commercial payers, Medicare plans, and state Medicaid in the geographic region.
  • Required: Must live within the assigned territory.
  • Required: Ability to travel and cover geography; at least 50% travel expected based on geography and territory/targeting makeup.
  • Required: Driving is an essential function of this role; must have a fully valid and unrestricted driver’s license.

Desirable Requirements

  • Experience delivering presentations to C-level account executives.
  • Strong ability to work cross-functionally with Field Sales, Marketing, Market Access, Public Affairs, State & Government Affairs, Trade, and applicable third-party affiliates.
  • Expertise in therapeutic area practice dynamics and reimbursement/product program support needs.
  • Strong capabilities in customer focus, collaboration, business acumen, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Field-based, customer-engaging role requiring use of a company-provided vehicle and maintaining a good driving record.
  • Ability to control field expenses and provide timely expense reports.

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree required. Business and/or biological science education preferred. Advanced degree preferred.
