POSITION SUMMARY:
Vertex Pharmaceuticals is seeking an Accounting Manager - Treasury & Insurance to lead the monthly close, accounting, and financial reporting activities for treasury and insurance related areas, including hedge accounting, foreign exchange, investments, debt, and captive insurance arrangements.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Treasury Accounting: Own treasury accounting and month-end close deliverables for hedge accounting, foreign exchange, investments, and debt; ensure accurate journal entries and U.S. GAAP-compliant reporting.
- Collaborate on controllership/cash forecasting; provide insights into cash flow, liquidity, and financial performance.
- Partner on investment/hedging policy adherence, hedge effectiveness testing, disclosures/reporting, and audit-ready documentation.
- Primary accounting stakeholder for the Treasury Management System; optimize Kyriba Cash Accounting and Financial Accounting modules.
- Insurance Accounting: Own captive insurance accounting and close activities; coordinate with outsourced service provider and ensure compliance with insurance accounting principles.
- Provide accounting guidance to the Insurance team; partner on U.S. GAAP/ASC 944 disclosures.
- Core Accounting: Prepare/review reconciliations and provide fluctuation analysis/business explanations.
- Oversee SOX compliance; address control gaps and maintain audit-ready documentation.
- Lead automation/standardization initiatives for continuous improvement.
Education & Qualifications
- Bachelorβs in Accounting, Finance, or related field (required).
- Typically 5+ years progressive corporate/public accounting experience with treasury and hedge accounting; captive insurance a plus.
- CPA/ACA/ACCA or equivalent treasury certifications highly preferred.
- Life sciences industry or Big 4 experience preferred.
Required Skills & Experience
- Strong U.S. GAAP/IFRS knowledge, treasury accounting, financial reporting.
- FX markets knowledge; balance sheet and cash flow hedging.
- Kyriba, Chatham, or Clearwater; Oracle or SAP EBS and/or BlackLine.
- Self-starter; strong analytical/problem-solving, organization/time management, and communication.
Compensation & Benefits (as stated)
- Pay range: $108,000 - $162,000.
- Eligible for annual bonus and annual equity awards.
