What You’ll Do
The Accounting Manager (Clinical) is integral to the R&D accounting close process focused on clinical accounting. Collaborates with CROs, Clinical Operations, Outsourcing, and FP&A to ensure timely and accurate reporting of clinical costs. Identifies gaps to ensure accuracy and completeness, resolves discrepancies, and helps implement new systems/tools to enhance financial reporting and clinical cost tracking.

Responsibilities
- Manage month-end and quarter-end accounting close for clinical R&D accruals.
- Prepare and maintain the monthly clinical tracker (expenses, prepayments, deposits, accrual accounts).
- Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting workpapers in accordance with US GAAP and internal SOX requirements.
- Review CRO budget tracker; incorporate CRO estimates into the clinical tracker; ensure alignment with contractual obligations and study progress.
- Ensure contracts are reflected in proper POs, budgets, and/or work orders and determine appropriate accounting treatment.
- Record invoices accurately against the appropriate POs, budgets, and/or work orders.
- Produce R&D clinical fluctuation analysis and report spend by subsidiaries, programs, phases, and other requested account-level analysis.
- Coordinate with Clinical Operations to share findings and validate accrual assumptions.
- Participate in meetings with CRO and Clinical Operations to support a timely month-end close.
- Assist with special projects and ad hoc requests.

Qualifications
- BA/BS in accounting or finance; CPA or CMA preferred.
- 7+ years progressive accounting experience in a publicly traded biotech/pharma company.
- Highly preferred: Big 4 audit experience on R&D accounts and/or hands-on clinical accounting experience.

Skills
- SAP (or similar ERP), Coupa, and advanced Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, INDEX/MATCH, nested formulas).
- Ability to interpret complex clinical vendor contracts and apply accounting judgment under US GAAP.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage competing priorities.
- Working knowledge of AI tools to automate processes and drive efficiencies.
- Excellent written/verbal communication and cross-functional collaboration.

Salary (California)
- $120,000 - $165,000 USD
