Role Summary

The Account Specialist, Anti Infectives, is field-based and responsible for maximizing opportunities for the product portfolio within a defined geography. This role develops and maintains strategic business relationships with Hospitals, IDNs, Academic Institutions, Outpatient Accounts, Long Term Care Facilities, Government Accounts, and Specialty Private Practice to increase patient access to portfolio products, expand current business, and achieve geography sales goals. The position covers St. Louis and the Western portion of Missouri and requires collaboration across cross-functional teams and external healthcare partners.

Responsibilities

  • Advances hospital and specialty customers along the sales continuum and gains prescriber commitments through effective questioning, active listening, and use of approved data and resources. Delivers on-label presentations to highlight benefits and risks and to address gaps in therapeutic areas, leading to sales goal achievement.
  • Develops professional relationships and differentiates the Anti-Infective portfolioโ€™s value proposition at all levels within accounts to further usage of the product portfolio.
  • Problem-solves product and patient flow through Specialty Pharmacy, Specialty Distribution, and Buy and Bill channels; coordinates and mobilizes key stakeholders across departments to align on patient-focused solutions.
  • Ability to operate in a complex, matrixed, account-based selling environment with cross-functional collaboration to identify and adapt approaches and tactics.
  • Creates and monitors strategic geography business plans, determines appropriate department/hcp focus by account, and aligns resources to support tactic execution.
  • Uses account data to develop profiles and relationship maps, routinely targeting key stakeholders to expand physician usage and the customer base.
  • Attends local boards, societies, conventions, and other HCP meetings as appropriate to represent AbbVie and build relationships; communicates developments to internal partners while ensuring on-label communications.
  • Completes AbbVie required training and adheres to company policies; meets HCIR credentialing requirements to gain entry into facilities and organizations within the territory.
  • Collaborates across departments and with cross-functional partners to develop processes within the account base and works with Medical Science Liaisons to develop compliant communication strategies.

Qualifications

  • Required: Bachelorโ€™s degree in health, sciences, pharmacy or business-related field; relevant and equivalent industry experience acceptable in lieu of a degree (at least five years total experience with three or more years in pharmaceutical/health/science industry preferred) and high school diploma/GED required.
  • Required: Account-based selling experience with hospitals, wound care centers, or infusion centers; experience navigating matrix environments within complex accounts (IDNs, academic institutions, hospitals, outpatient accounts).
  • Preferred: Knowledge of formulary approval processes and driving formulary approvals; experience with Buy and Bill and specialty pharmacy products.
  • Required: Documented history of strong sales performance; ability to communicate complex products and processes clearly; strong teamwork and ability to work as an individual contributor in a collaborative environment.
  • Required: Strong business acumen, accountability for sales geography, ability to multitask, prioritize, and analyze data to define account/program strategies.
  • Required: Strong planning, organization, presentation, and facilitation skills; ability to learn procedural, technical, and clinical information quickly; ability to convey complex scientific information to diverse audiences; strong problem resolution skills.
  • Required: Ability to influence others, build cross-functional partnerships, and cover the assigned geography fully; demonstrated credibility and leadership in challenging environments.
  • Required: Satisfy health care industry representative (HCIR) credentialing requirements to gain and maintain entry into facilities and organizations in the territory; in good standing or eligible to obtain credentials.
  • Required: Compliance with HCIR credentialing requirements including potential background checks, drug screens, immunization proof, fingerprinting, and state/city licensing as applicable; company provides resources to assist questions.
