Role Summary

Director of Data and Analytics Capabilities within Vertex’s U.S. Market Access (USMA) Data & Analytics Center of Excellence. This is an individual contributor role that will over time lead a team of data analysts and scientists, shaping AI-powered decision-making across Market Access functions and supporting a leading pharmaceutical pipeline. The role requires designing and executing transformative AI/ML strategies, with deep domain expertise across core Market Access pillars, and partnering with senior executives to align data-driven insights with strategic priorities. The director will drive data-centric thinking, foster innovation, and elevate analytical capabilities across Market Access domains, from pipeline planning to in-market optimization.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute data & analytics capabilities that enable scalable insights across in-line brands and pipeline assets aligned with US Market Access priorities to drive business results and transform patient outcomes.
  • Manage direct reports with Data Enablement, Data Governance, and Advanced Analytics responsibilities.
  • Oversee Data Enablement to establish a common data foundation of analytics-ready data products, ensuring integration across data domains including payer accounts, field operations, pricing, chargebacks, reimbursements, trade and distribution, and third-party data acquisition and vendor management.
  • Oversee Data Governance to implement a data governance framework, driving data discipline, integrity, security, and compliance to strengthen the baseline for D&A innovation.
  • Lead Advanced Analytics capabilities to enable real-time insights through AI-driven models, self-service analytics, and predictive intelligence to generate pipeline value narratives for market shaping, strengthen coverage/utilization, and drive launch success.
  • Elevate analytics with Advanced ML, implementing multi-level analytical models to attribute 340B vs. non-340B dispenses and detect anomalies.
  • Drive new KPIs and continuous performance monitoring in post-deal analytics, identifying pull-through opportunities and informing pre-deal feasibility.
  • Foster a data-driven culture by leading enterprise-wide data literacy and training initiatives for Payer Field teams, Trade & Distribution, and Pricing & Contracting teams.
  • Lead change management to embed Gen AI-enhanced capabilities into strategic decision-making, including an intelligent knowledge hub with conversational interfaces.
  • Partner with Digital Technology & Engineering (DTE), GIACO, HEOR, and DSS to create a seamless AI-powered data ecosystem.
  • Monitor emerging technologies and best practices to ensure ongoing innovation in ML, Generative AI, and analytics-driven decision-making.
  • Collaborate with DTE and GIACO to illuminate the “Why” behind the “What” and communicate business context to stakeholders.
  • Advocate for and build partnerships to integrate market access insights across the Vertex enterprise.

Qualifications

  • Minimum: Master’s degree in a quantitative discipline (e.g., Engineering, Statistics, Economics, Finance). 10+ years in biotech/pharmaceuticals in Managed Markets or biopharma consulting (analytics, management, or strategic) post-MBA/PhD, with relevant biotech/pharma and quantitative decision-support experience. 7+ years developing insights that inform value, access, reimbursement, and contracting strategies. Proficiency in D&A with deep expertise in evolving U.S. Market Access strategies, payer account management, and distribution channels. Experience with syndicated Market Access databases (IQVIA, MMIT) and shipment data. Strong analytical skills with Excel, SQL, SAS, Alteryx, PowerBI; working knowledge of R, Python, and Snowflake. able to network with stakeholders and communicate with senior leadership; strong storytelling and presentation skills; ability to handle ambiguity.
  • Preferred: PhD or MBA/ MPH with Master’s in quantitative discipline. 8–10 years of market access experience across Health Plans, PBMs, Hospital Systems, and related stakeholders. Diverse US product launch experience across therapeutic areas.

Education

  • Master’s degree in a quantitative discipline (required).
  • PhD or MBA/ MPH with a Master’s in a quantitative discipline (preferred).
