Position Summary:
Director, Access & Reimbursement (DAR) leads and coaches a team of Access & Reimbursement Managers (ARMs) responsible for access and fulfillment activities across nephrology healthcare provider accounts, executing the patient access field reimbursement strategy, and enabling providers, patients, and caregivers with information/tools/resources to start and stay on therapy. Fosters compliant cross-functional communications with Patient Experience, Specialty Pharmacy, Market Access, and Field Sales.
Responsibilities:
- Hire, mentor, develop, and lead a field access/reimbursement team in local geography.
- Use KPIs/analytics to optimize field execution; develop long-/short-term strategic plans and manage tactical execution.
- Build regional vision and culture; motivate performance and achieve goals.
- Deliver performance management, coaching, and training to ensure compliance with regulations and internal policies.
- Address access/fulfillment patient obstacles (pharmacy benefit, specialty pharmacy, REMS); maximize expediting patient access.
- Develop regional business plan to optimize patient initiation and pull-through metrics.
- Serve as product access/reimbursement expert; provide training/direction.
- Ensure cross-functional collaboration with field sales; create communication cadence with ARMs, hub services, REMS, specialty pharmacy, and payer account team.
- Support field work/virtual calls for development, issue resolution, and feedback.
- Cultivate key account relationships; train on payer coverage/criteria changes.
- Ensure pull-through key access/fulfillment messages in customer engagement.
- Analyze regional performance; identify ARM capability gaps and work to close them.
Qualifications:
- Bachelorβs degree required (or equivalent education/experience).
- 10 years pharma/biotech or related experience; specialty pharmaceutical, nephrology, rare disease, REMS preferred.
- 5+ years specialty medicines access/reimbursement landscape experience (HUBs, payers, specialty pharmacies, etc.).
- 3+ years field reimbursement manager.
- 3+ years first-line team leader with coaching/capability and people development.
Skills/Experience (Preferred/Required):
- Knowledge of private/commercial and government reimbursement (e.g., Medicare Part D, VA).
- Experience educating on benefit verification, prior authorization, appeals, denials, letters of medical necessity, pre-determination.
- Cross-functional training/operations/payer project experience; managing access complexities for new-to-market meds.
- Strong relationship-building with HCPs, office staff, sales team, hub counterparts.
- Computer skills (basic Excel, PowerPoint); ability to resolve/educate virtually.
- Strong communication (verbal/written), organization, collaboration, attention to detail; multitasking in dynamic environment.
- Record managing complex project plans/timelines/budgets/critical paths; adapt to plan changes.
- Field-based role: live in region/adjacent with major airport access; valid driverβs license; reliable vehicle; travel up to 50%.
- Ability for face-to-face work/credentialing in territory.
