Role Summary

2026 Summer Internship Program: ML/AI Digital Pathology Imaging Intern

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with internal and external teams to interpret machine learning model outputs related to disease patterns in clinical pathology images
  • Contribute to the development of innovative quantitative biomarkers related to the tumor microenvironment to help predict patient response to potential immunotherapies
  • Analyze and interpret complex data sets to extract actionable insights that inform strategic decisions and communicate findings to the team and stakeholders
  • Assist in the design and execution of experiments to validate and optimize machine learning models, ensuring their efficacy and reliability in digital pathology
  • Develop multi-modal ML models using digital pathology foundational model embeddings and related data
  • Evaluate new technologies (e.g., virtual staining) for feasibility and impact on drug development pipelines

Qualifications

  • This position will be Hybrid out of the Cambridge, MA location
  • Must be pursuing a Doctoral Degree in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Pathology, or a related field
  • A strong foundation in biology, chemistry, biochemistry, histology, immunology, or a related scientific field
  • Demonstrated experience or coursework in machine learning, data analysis, and/or image analysis (traditional or ML-based techniques)
  • Knowledge and interest in pathology and its application in the healthcare industry
  • Exceptional communication and teamwork abilities
  • Excellent quantitative, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Graduate, PhD, MD student with completion of a minimum of one year of university studies

Education

  • PhD or equivalent in a related field; current enrollment in a degree program graduating December 2026 or later

Additional Requirements

  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. on a permanent basis without requiring sponsorship
  • The internship program is 10-12 weeks with two possible start dates; ability to commit to one of these time frames; full-time 40 hours per week
  • Takeda does not provide housing stipend or relocation support for the U.S. Summer Internship Program
