Role Summary

2026 Summer Intern PhD Student - Analytical Development & Characterization. Internship in the Drug Product Development (DPD) department in New Brunswick, NJ focused on analytical method development and characterization of novel injectable small molecules and biologics throughout formulation and drug product manufacturing process development. Program runs about 10 weeks with mentors, including orientation and formal presentation at internship end.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute analytical methods and material characterization to support drug product development.
  • Analyze, review, and document analytical data in compliance with company requirements.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to enable drug product formulation development and manufacturing processes.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve related issues.

Qualifications

  • Required: Currently enrolled in a Ph.D. program in Analytical Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Physical Chemistry, Materials Science, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Physics, or related field with a focus on analytical chemistry or material characterization; enrolled during Summer 2026; expected to graduate Fall 2026 to end of 2027; GPA 3.0 or greater on resume.
  • Required: Expertise related to powders, crystallography, powder flow, particle size analysis, and/or with tools such as spectroscopy, chemometrics, or related techniques for process optimization and monitoring.
  • Required: Excellent critical thinking, ability to work independently and as part of a team; effective communication and people skills; proficiency in data analysis software and tools.
  • Required: Authorization to work in the US for duration of internship; no visa sponsorship available.

  • Analytical method development (HPLC, CE, dissolution)
  • Vibrational spectroscopy (Raman, NIR, IR)
  • X-Ray diffraction; thermal analysis (DSC, TGA)
  • Particle size distribution (PSD); optical and electrical microscopy
  • Analytical and spectroscopic techniques; data analysis

Education

  • Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Physical Chemistry, Materials Science, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Physics, or related field (current enrollment for Summer 2026)

Additional Requirements

  • Temporary, time-bound internship; not a guarantee of ongoing employment.
  • In-person internship with potential travel/housing stipend if located >50 miles from work location.
