Role Summary

2026 Spatial Transcriptomics Intern (PhD) at AbbVie. Summer internship focused on analyzing cutting-edge spatial transcriptomics and histopathology data, in collaboration with BIGGS and Discovery Immunology, to advance spatial data analysis capabilities and pipeline development.

Responsibilities

  • Test new algorithms on spatial transcriptomics data for accuracy and efficiency.
  • Assist in the expansion and optimization of our spatial data analysis pipeline.
  • Work within an interdisciplinary team to integrate cutting-edge tools and technologies and advance the understanding of disease biology.
  • Contribute easily maintainable, robust, and flexible code for spatial analysis pipelines.
  • Interpret and communicate results to team members and a wider audience of interdisciplinary scientists.

Qualifications

  • Required: Currently enrolled in a PhD program in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or related field.
  • Required: Must be enrolled in university for at least one semester following the internship.
  • Required: Expected graduation date between December 2026 – July 2027.
  • Required: Experience working with spatial transcriptomics, preferably Xenium.
  • Required: Fluent in R and/or Python.
  • Required: Fluent in single-cell RNA-seq analysis.
  • Required: Excellent organizational, communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Expertise in immunology is a plus.
  • Experience with image analysis is a plus.
  • Experience with Nextflow and GitHub.
