Role Summary

2026 Project Engineering Co-Op (Jul - Dec) at AbbVie Bioresearch Center in Worcester, MA. Support capital projects involving design, procurement, commissioning, start-up, validation, and management of equipment and related aspects, working with cross-functional teams to deliver project objectives. Under the direction of a Senior Project Engineer, provide project management support for GMP equipment procurement and upgrades from initial specification through qualification.

Responsibilities

  • Provide project management support for GMP equipment procurement and/or upgrades from initial specification and selection through procurement and qualification.
  • Develop engineering documentation (User Requirements, P&IDs, etc.) to support equipment design and perform engineering calculations to size process lines, equipment, and instrumentation.
  • Support commissioning and validation of project-related equipment, facilities, and utilities to ensure proper installation, operation, and performance.
  • Complete capital projects as assigned, including:
    • Creating cost estimates for funding requests
    • Managing project budgets
    • Creating and maintaining project schedules
    • Design, procurement, and validation of equipment/utilities
    • Providing project updates to key stakeholders
    • Supporting the Engineering team on large capital projects by creating engineering documents (Technical Specifications, P&IDs, PDs, etc.)
    • Supporting FAT activities
    • Adding new assets into the Maintenance program

Qualifications

  • Minimum Qualifications:
    • Currently enrolled in a university pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Biomedical Engineering, Biotechnology, or related programs.
    • Must be enrolled in university for at least one semester following the co-op.
    • Expected graduation date between December 2026 – June 2027.
    • Able to commit to a 6-month program at AbbVie Bioresearch Center (ABC) in Worcester, MA (July - December).

Skills

  • Engineering documentation (User Requirements, P&IDs, etc.)
  • Project management and coordination
  • Process sizing calculations for lines, equipment, and instrumentation
  • Quality systems knowledge for GMP equipment

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Biomedical Engineering, Biotechnology or related programs (in progress)
