Role Summary

2026 Process Chemistry Intern (PhD). This internship in the Process Chemistry group focuses on advancing AbbVie's AI goals by utilizing state-of-the-art high-throughput experimentation and active learning to develop AI reactivity models for process-critical reactions. The intern will work under the supervision of a senior scientist to design experiments, analyze results, and curate datasets for AI/ML applications.

Responsibilities

  • Design and execution of high-throughput experiments using automation technology.
  • Characterization and analysis of experimental results.
  • Curation of datasets for use in AI/ML applications.

Qualifications

  • Required: Currently enrolled in university, pursuing a PhD in Chemistry or other related fields
  • Required: Must be enrolled in university for at least one semester following the internship
  • Required: Developed skills in synthetic chemistry and ability to conduct and interpret scientific experiments, including analytical methods (HPLC, NMR)
  • Preferred: Expected graduation date between December 2026 – July 2027
  • Preferred: Demonstrate critical thinking and problem-solving skills, including analysis and providing suggestions for additional experiments, including design and development of new assays.
  • Preferred: Self-motivated; ability to execute with limited supervision and direction. Can work independently or as part of a team.
  • Preferred: Ability to independently troubleshoot experiments, operate laboratory reactors, and identify and solve elementary problems in experimental designs.
  • Preferred: Programming experience (Python or similar)
