Role Summary
The AbbVie EXCEL Externship is a two-day, unpaid immersive experience for sophomore students interested in future internships with AbbVie. Participants will join AbbVie's Headquarters in Lake County, IL during the Summer of 2026 to: get immersed in AbbVie's culture; gain hands-on experience in a variety of key business areas; build an extended network of AbbVie representatives, senior leaders, and students from across the country; participate in cross-functional professional development opportunities; learn more about AbbVie's career opportunities; be considered for an internship for the following summer; and AbbVie will provide travel, transportation, and lodging for eligible students. The program serves as a key talent pipeline for our Pharmaceutical Sales Internship, with externship participants strongly considered for internship opportunities and potential full-time Pharmaceutical Sales roles after graduation.

Qualifications
- Required: Must be currently enrolled in university, pursuing a bachelor's degree in biological sciences, pharmacy, business related field, or equivalent with an expected graduation date between December 2027 – July 2028
- Required: Willing and able to do an internship between Junior and Senior year
- Interest and ability to relocate for AbbVie’s 10 to 12-week on-site internship which will take place part-time in Lake County, IL and part-time in assigned territory
- Preferred: Cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher
- Preferred: Basic healthcare or biotech industry knowledge
- Preferred: Strong communication skills with ability to adapt to many different scenarios
- Preferred: Strong desire to learn; self-motivated with high levels of discipline
- Preferred: Basic/Intermediate experience in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams)
- Preferred: Excellent problem-solving, written, and verbal skills
- Preferred: Exceptional interpersonal, leadership and project management skills
- Preferred: Proven track record of teamwork, adaptability, innovation, initiative, and integrity
- Preferred: Interest in a sales career that requires strong clinical acumen
- Preferred: Planning and organization skills

- Mobility is a key component as a pipeline internship to full-time Pharmaceutical Sales field-based roles
